HELP WITH VIDEOS
Channel 101's videos are MPEG-4 files, otherwise known as mp4.

We have chosen this file format because for MOST visitors, it offers the nicest quality at the smallest file sizes with a minimum of fuss.

Ideally, whether you're using a mac or a PC, clicking the VIEW link next to any video will take you to a video viewing page; the video will begin loading into your player and, depending on your connection speed (and net congestion), will start playing while it finishes loading. We have settled on an .mp4 file with a data rate of approximately 240 K/sec, just under the average broadband downstream speed. This data rate creates a video file of about 13 megabytes for a full five minutes, and starts playing relatively quickly.

If you like what you see, and you want to boost the quality, the ABOUT link next to any Prime Time Show should take you to a page offering a range of HIGHER RESOLUTION downloads, going up to 75 megabyte TV-resolution .mp4 files. Obviously, there's a little more of a time commitment involved. If you're a fan of a particular show, download the hi-res version to your hard drive while making a sandwich, then, you'll have it forever.

Troubleshooting
effect : When I click DOWNLOAD, I get a white screen that fills up with characters that look like Beetle Bailey is swearing.

cause : This seems to be primarily a problem for mac users using Internet Explorer. In any case, if you're seeing this, your computer is trying to display the .mp4 file and doesn't know that it's a video. Strangely enough, in most cases, these people have no problem at all with the view link.

solution : We believe that this problem is no longer an issue. Our download links should be working properly and the newest versions of all browsers seem to be aware of what an .mp4 is. But if the DOWNLOAD links are still not working properly for you, try clicking the download link with the RIGHT button on your mouse and choose SAVE TARGET AS (on PC) or RIGHT-CLICK/CONTROL-CLICK and choose DOWNLOAD LINK TO DISC (on mac).

effect : When I click VIEW, I get the video page but the screen is black and it just stays black forever.

cause : This means you're gay. Just kidding. I mean, maybe you are gay, it's none of my business, but, regardless of your sexual orientation, you do not have the latest version of Quicktime installed. Now, if you're an underground LINUX hero or one of these PC militants that refuses to submit to the tyranny of Apple software, preferring instead the humble charms of your Ma and Pop Microsoft Windows Media player, I've got great news for you: MPEG-4 players and plugins come in all shapes in sizes. Of course, you're probably not going to be able to enjoy the easy click-and-view functionality of our site unless you've got Quicktime installed. But at least you'll be able to view the videos after downloading them.
This section will be updated as we encounter and solve more technical issues. Feel free to report any troubles in our FORUM, in the Web Site section. Check current threads first and try to be more specific than saying "I can't see the videos." You might just have a bag on your head.
